Ash Wednesday Services; More Details on Lent Programs

Ash Wednesday is 6 March 2019

We offer the traditional service, including the “Imposition of Ashes” and Holy Communion, at 7:00 AM, 12 Noon, and 7:00 PM. The evening service will include the first Lent hymns of the season.

If you cannot make one of the services, but would like to participate in the observance, call the office and make an appointment with the Rector who will be happy to pray with you, offer you ashes and communion from the reserved sacrament.

Good Lord, Deliver Us

Good Lord Deliver Us

Our Lent Program this year is based on the book, Good Lord, Deliver Us, by Lindsay and Leonard Freeman. It consists of daily meditations from the oldest formal prayer of our Prayerbook tradition, The Great Litany. You can get a copy for your electronic reader, or order one from Forward Movement publications here: https://www.forwardmovement.org/AdvancedSearch/DefaultWFilter.aspx?SearchTerm=Good+Lord+deliver+us

We will have weekly discussions about the daily readings on Tuesdays, following the 10:00 AM service in the Maryan Room (followed by a salad lunch) and repeated at 10:30 AM on Saturday mornings in the Harward Parlor. The first Tuesday Program will be 12 March 2019 and the first Saturday program will be 16 March 2019

The Rector has ordered 20 copies of the book if you would like to purchase one from him just six copies left if you would to purchase one.

The announcement of the Lent Madness voting brackets last November sent your Rector to his history books. (Well, actually to Wikipedia, if you must know!) There were names of saints unknown to the vast majority of Episcopalians amid the 32 listed in the four categories. So … our hint to you: hie thee hence to www.lentmadness.org and get a head start preparing for the playoff pairings to come.

You can play on your phone, tablet, or computer, or (if you want to get all medieval about it) you can actually order a booklet with the biographies of this year’s candidates.

Emmanuel will have the full bracket poster available to look at in the church, and the Rector will post his selections before the voting begins.

And don’t forget to check out the blog posts that are linked to the site. Some of the best young talent in the Episcopal Church can be found there, along with some pretty good ideas about what is working for congregations across the country.

Here are the Rector’s picks for the first Round

Hint: the Rector has never scored even 50% in the first Bracket, so make you own choices!

The Rev’d Canon Dr. Mark Gatza,

Rector
