“Vanity of Vanities” quoth the Preacher!

The Book of Ecclesiastes:

A Vacation Bible School for Adults

Take a look at these two pictures of “Koheleth,” the Preacher/Prophet and Author of the Book of Ecclesiastes from the Hebrew Scriptures. Different, huh?! Interested in reading the work of someone who inspires such different perspectives, and who is most famous for saying “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity?” Join us for Adult Vacation Bible School Monday, 17 July 2017 through Thursday, 18 July 2017, from 10:00 AM until Noon in the air conditioned comfort of the Emmanuel Church sanctuary. Bring your own Bible (and a cushion for the pews if you’d like) and buckle up for some challenging conversations inspired by Koheleth’s deep deliberations.

Here are some of the web videos we watched

Two from “The Bible Project,” a really helpful sources of book introductions:

A contemporary, literalist, “Mega-Church” style introduction

A Rabbi’s sermon on the book for the feast of Succoth

Another Rabbi’s take, turning the meaning of Hevel completely upside down

A classic, scholarly introduction to the book of the sort I was raised on
